Firefox 3

Yesterday saw the worldwide release of the browser Mozilla Firefox 3 in the so-called Download Day 2008 with the addition was intended to break the world record for downloads exceeding 5,000,000 downloads in one day, make your own conclusions watching the real-time counter . At the moment, when the 20:34 Spanish time, have more than 8,000,000 and up, considering that downloads were available from 19:00 Spanish time of 6.17.08.

As was natural, was not naturally good, because if you organize something of this caliber, you must be prepared for it, Mozilla's servers could not withstand such a flood of downloads and were offline a long time, but hey, it just bad luck, and you can download without problems Firefox 3 for different platforms (Castilian versions):

Perhaps, "the glue" that can annoy more updating earlier versions of Firefox to 3 may be that some extensions you use, temporarily stop working until they are updated, although you can use, this trick (via Microsiervos) for does not happen. I'm not going to do, since only 1 extension fails me all I use, and I is essential, so not bad right?. But beware, using this trick is your responsibility, because as they say in the post: "With this Firefox will check whether the installed extensions are compatible with the version that is running, but beware, this may make Firefox do strange things, so use at your own risk. If you have many extensions installed, it is better than go uninstall them and adding little by little until you see that all is well. "

Still, worth changing to the new version as it is much faster, improves memory management and use, provides greater performance and add new features, but because they are enough, perhaps better than you see them on the page Mozilla (Firefox Development Company).

And finally, if the first time you hear of this browser, personally I would recommend you to give him a chance and could prove it, :-) I did, and I have not already use another browser.

Be happy

  • I did not know there was new version of Firefox, I do not understand is because you have to download a file and install it, one would expect firefox itself tell you that a new version available and updated on the spot without having to do anything else. I for now, today, I still can not install it, tomorrow another rooster crow. Greetings.

  • @ Miguel Daza: Man, I look normal to have to download a new version because it has nothing to do with the previous Firefox. One thing is that in the 2, they had automatic updates, but because they were new versions of the same version 2.0.0.x but in this case is a "new program" with a different operational architecture and version 2, so it is not enough to automatically update. I know that I express what I mean well, but I'm not an expert, lol, however, I think I know what I mean.

  • You have expressed perfectly and I understand what you meant, however, I am too lazy, but hey, that does not take long to download and install it. Indeed, talk of improvements and speed and such, but I wonder if that's what he says about his new Mozilla Firefox or if what you say once used by you. I imagine also having to export the favorites and the sage to not lose it?.

  • Yes, I have installed and the truth is that it goes much faster than the 2, I will perfectly, unless an extension, but hey, I used the main function, which only fails on December 1 is not bad. Favorites, and the Sage RSS and settings you had saved in Firefox, however, would not hurt the save before just in case, is a second and you'll avoid major mishaps, :-).

  • I'm with Daza, that of having to download software and install it by hand is a pain. To my now I only : P In less than 24 already in the ubuntu repositories.

  • @ Miguel Daza: Following on from my previous comment I commented that if you get Firefox 3, although SAGE is a version compatible with Firefox 3 and it works, personally I did strange things, which I told you of the RSS was the fault of SAGE, so I've put the extension Sage too which is identical to SAGE, in fact you see that the name seems, since it is an evolution of the extension SAGE, and I have no problems with the RSS some blogs, as I passed with the other. What if you do, then, is to export your list of feeds, because you have to import it after the new (apart, that although it had to, it is always advisable to exports, which is cheap and useful).

    Regards
