WordPress Plugins

If not long ago wrote a post with wearing extensions for Firefox 3 today I will do the same, but with the plugins I use for WordPress .

And as I said in the post Firefox extensions, WordPress plugins also have numerous depending on what we need, some very useful, and more curious than anything else, so I'll focus on those who currently use.

In principle they are functional for version 2.5 of WordPress, and that I go all and is the version I use, so you should have no problems if you use this version.

If you want any concrete that is not on this list, you can always search the WordPress Plugins page among all there is, which are few.

And now let's see the list of plugins I use, first saying that I am not very extensive in their use, installation, operation, etc, because otherwise it would be endless, and perhaps some plugins do not need to use them as the Theme use in your blog, because now some of them already have some functions that I perform using plugins built right into the Theme:

  • Akismet : The Anti-Spam plugin for WordPress excellence and absolutely necessary to forget the spam in your blog. But I'm wrong, is now installed by default in versions of WordPress, but need to obtain an API Key for WordPress to use it, which is not very complicated to do.
  • Share This : This plugin performs arguably diffusion of the post in your blog, as it allows a reader, if a post has been interesting, send it to the most common social networking Internet, or the possibility of sending Post someone e-mail, among other things.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog at the end of each post, whether on the home page or on the individual post, represented by the following icon:

  • Currently there are several newer versions of this plugin, but I use the 1.4 that I like better than today.

  • Dagon Design Sitemap Generator : This plugin allows you to create a Sitemap of your blog so that on one page (or several if you have many entries) can be written every post, pages, categories, etc, as a list.

List is updated automatically with each new entry, logically, making your visitors can see all the entries and reader followed by search engines.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog tab: Site Map .

  • Contact Form : This simple but effective plugin, you can put in an easy and simple contact form on my blog so your readers can contact you.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog tab in the Contact .

  • Google XML Sitemaps : This plugin creates a sitemap of your site in XML format for example then you can go to Google Webmaster Tools and to facilitate the indexing of the pages of your blog by Google.
  • Gravatar : I think this plugin may be somewhat outdated, because nowadays many themes incorporate Gravatar by default, but it is the case, this plugin will allow you to implement it in your blog, so that readers who already use Gravatar may put its image in the comments, or you can choose a default image for readers who do not use it.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog Post have any comments, such as this .

Those who have left comments and use your Gravatar icon leaves, and those who do not leave them a default globe.

  • Popularity Contest : With this plugin you will know which are the most popular post of your blog in terms of parameters previously configured according to the size you want to take the assessment (Reviews, Visits to the home page, by category, Trackbacks, pingbacks, etc).

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog in the sidebar of the blog as seen in the image below:

  • Real Fast Latest Comments : This simple but effective plugin to display recent comments left on your blog.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog in the sidebar, as shown in the following image:

  • Subscribe to comments : This plugin provides an opportunity for someone to leave a comment on an entry, to receive future responses and / or comments on this entry via e-mail.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog on the check box that comes immediately after the button "Submit Comment" to write a comment as shown in the image below:

  • WordPress Database Backup : Because you never know when disaster strikes can occur, at least not get caught off guard. This plugin sends you daily via e-mail a copy of the database of your blog, better safe than sorry, :-) .
  • WP-Pager : This plugin can show a slightly more orderly and structured the number of pages and post to your blog, that the usual "next entries" or "previous entries", both generally on the main page, and the number of entries that comprise a given category if it is to navigate through specific categories. A plugin that I personally like it.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog in the bottom of the blog as seen in the image below:

  • WP 2.3 Related Posts : Another interesting plugin through the function of tags or labels WordPress version 2.5 allows you to show your readers or post other entries that relate to a particular post, and can be configured to display random entries if absence related post.

In principle I use the tag system of WordPress itself, idk if using other plugins to manage tags also works or not, just as it is interesting to have a more or less fixed tags in the post common categories facilitate their relationship.

You can see the integration of this plugin HelloWorld Blog to click on the title of a post to enter the single page of it. For example, as shown in the image, in the Post on extensions of Firefox 3 here are the tips that shows related posts:

Well, I think this is it, :-) , Which is something, I hope you have found interesting here, and remember again that this is just a small selection and you can find many more plugins in the WordPress plugins page and a few plugins that are not unique, ie that there may be other plugins that perform the same function, even in a better way, but I, these are the use.

And you, Do you use any other plugin worth being named?, You can say in the comments.

Meme: Your music album

Via Take it slow I echo a meme with which "will create" what could be the name of your band, the title of his album, and its design, and as I found odd because I will.

To do this you must do the following:

And no cheating, ie, taking the first result page, EXCEPT in the image of my album, I took the first picture I had Creative Commons License , this would look like:

The name of my group would be Branton Files , the album title would be: The track of truth and the cover and disc design could be the one you see below:

Picture: "The silent enigma" taken from the Gallery pioforsky Flickr and Creative Commons License .

Do you like it?, I think has been pretty good, :-) .

Firefox 3 Extensions

In this post I talked about the release of version 3 of the browser Firefox .

But the post is not going to try the browser itself, but I will talk about supplements or Addons for Firefox, which are to be extensions to add extra profits to the browser depending on what you need and is one of the things that really adds value to the browser, since you have almost infinite extensions, some very useful and imprescincibles, and more curious than anything else, but extensions to the end, after all, everyone who wants to choose between all there , :-) .

And there are many, I will discuss specifically the one I use now in the past I used other, probably in the future add more, but now these are the ones I use:

  • Adblock Plus : One of the extensions that arguably impresicindible for Firefox, since with it practically ran advertising on web pages or any image from any website that feels uncomfortable, as it says in the description of the extension:

Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than the rest of the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of it.

  • Adblock Filterset.G Updater : Extension that should be used in conjunction with Adblock Plus and allows filters updated Adblock Plus blocks advertisements by default.
  • Colorful Tabs : This curious extension lets you view each of your Firefox tab open in different colors so that you make it easier to move between them, I find it funny and entertaining.
  • Easy Drag To Go : With Easy drag to go you can open links in new tabs, search text in Google, or save images with simple mouse movements.

I personally only use to open any links and is super useful, simply (previously configured) pricks your mouse over the link to open, drag the mouse down slightly a few millimeters, release the mouse button, and voila, the you link opens in a new tab. I would do without this extension!.
  • FlashGot : This extension is a bit more specific, and allows you to connect Firefox with some external download manager you may have. It is a useful extension, because for example on pages made available to the user to download multiple items, you can download all massively, among many other functions.
  • Forecastfox : Another extension perhaps more curious than useful, but I like it Forecastfox lets you keep in the status bar the weather forecast for the places, days, etc. as you set your choice.

Personally I have the time and temperature forecast from now in my city, and the next day. The information was obtained from the page: Weather
  • Gmail Manager : A very useful extension, especially if you have multiple accounts in Gmail , since that is its purpose, let the browser handle from multiple accounts simultaneously from the mail service, so that at the very bottom bar Firefox can scroll through the different emails from different accounts. In fact your own extension, switching between accounts when you receive new mail on one of them.
  • No Script : Again we are faced with an extension of what might be called as necessary, at least in terms of security, as this extension prevents the execution of javascript unless you allow it, preventing execution of malicious code in web pages.

The interesting thing about this extension is that you are always not allowing sites because if you know a website that is secure, and browse through it you can usually add it to the white list of allowed websites and do not block it.

If a website where you know you're only going to navigate at times, as you can temporarily allow for that session only the execution of javascript, and indeed, can afford to each element of each Web page.

Certainly a most basic extension for your safety.

  • PDF Download : Shows different actions when you click on a PDF document Internet browsing, basically gives you the option to download it, open it in pdf, or html. It may be helpful.
  • Sage-Too : Add a simple but functional RSS reader in your Firefox sidebar to enjoy your feeds in a simple but effective, I tried it and now I do not use another reader, :-) .
  • IE Tab : any website you go wrong with Firefox or not working properly?, no problem, this extension lets you open Web pages from Firefox using the Internet Explorer engine and who do you have to open the page in the browser . It also lets you add to a list and thereafter will automatically open the Explorer engine. Another extension almost basic, although there are fewer pages to go wrong in Firefox, but hey, someone gets there.

Finally, remember again that these are the extensions I use, since there are many more, and many are well known, especially in more specific areas such as programming and web edition, since in this case are extensions very useful as Greasemonkey (Requires some knowledge), Firebug or Firecookie that lets you manage individual cookies in your browser without having to delete the entire history of cookies.

So if you want to entertain extensions that may be interested in looking at the official site for Firefox extensions you have all you want, :-) .

In this post I do not explain anything about their options, configuration, operation, etc. would be immense as the post, however, soon I'll be posting several posts on the operation of the most interesting case anyone does not know them or use them, with images and others, or as a video tutorial, who knows.

Do you?, Do you use any extension that you consider essential and that is not here?, You can say in the comments.

Photos of Primo de Rivera Park Zaragoza

NOTE: Click on photos to enlarge them, and how are my own, have this Creative Commons License .

Some time ago I put a post with some pictures I took in the first of Rivera Park Zaragoza, more commonly known as "Big Park", but after changing blog domain as mentioned, the I blew and I lost many post, including the Great Park, so I write again with a new picture.

Primo de Rivera Park is one of the most emblematic parks Zaragoza also occupies a large area (40 hectares) and has multiple entertainment options, especially now with the weather, which greatly increases the number of visitors made the most numerous activities: Biking (The park has bike rental business, touring, mountain, children's bicycle taxis in which to go with family, etc.), reading or relaxing in the gardens , dog walking, playing badminton, ball, walk, skate, drink in the bars there, or whatever you can think!.

Following an overview of the Park:

Park also highlight some features sculptures, like the Great monument to King Alfonso I the Warrior or a beautiful sculpture of Neptune or at least related to water:

Also highlight a number of other elements such as the botanical garden (Of which I have not put pictures because now is closed for renovations, but I will when I reopen), the Ethnological Museum, the Rincon de Goya, the Winter Garden or Kiosk Music, which can be seen in the following picture:

And like any self-respecting park, could not miss the flowers and gardens that adorn the park:

And finally, a few pictures of the beautiful fountains and waterfalls can also be seen in the park:

Hope you liked them, and if ever you come to Zaragoza, well worth a visit, or if you are from Zaragoza, sure you've ever been, :-) . See if you end up soon with the conservation work of the botanical garden and reopen it again to take pictures.

Increase security in Gmail

Recently Google has added to its mail service Gmail a new feature that security can be quite useful, or at least allows you to take some control logons on your account, and where they occur but go little by bit.

When you log into Gmail, at the bottom of the screen shows the following message:

As shown in the figure shows the IP address from which you accessed the account and when it has done for the last time, but there's more, because if we click on detailed information we can see this window:

In the picture we see all the new posibildades that offers this feature:

  • Information about the current session: IP, where it has occurred (browser, mobile, POP3, etc.)
  • It lets you slam all the sessions you may have open on other computers (looks quite useful if for example you've left the account open by mistake on a public computer)
  • Information about the last 5 connections: IP, where it has occurred (browser, mobile, POP3, etc.), date and time

More information on the Google help center

It is certainly a great feature to control "uses bizarre" or inadequate in your inbox and detect theft of account, since for example, if you visit always mail from the browser and access the report you see your account has been opened by someone perhaps POP3 access in use without your consent, or if the days and hours of use of the account does not usually coincide with those normally able to see the mail, you can suspect something.

The IP, well, could become useful, but again, if you have it fixed, but in my opinion can become less important as it is normal that is dynamic, and if you connect from many places in one day your account, as there will be many ip's, but if you always do from a PC, if it can be useful too, but we must not become paranoid about this, :-) .

Did this negative?, For again there is the ease with which Google collects data from users who perhaps could even be considered private, such as the IP, although Google seems that the IP data is not a private , the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (AEPD) in its report 327/03 seems to disagree and which considers itself an IP private data , but hey, these have always been debates about whether Google goes too far with the information stored its users and the uses made of it.

Personally, I do not mind this as it is true that Google "knows everything about me", but thanks to that we can enjoy services and facilities such as other mailers do not, and you like their practices, but the solution is easy, stop using Google services :-) . But for now, not for me to do, and I think this functionality can be very useful.
