Vaxholm 1

Vaxholm is a small coastal town in the archipelago of Stockholm in central Sweden with a population of 5000 inhabitants and is named after the fortress that it houses, built in 1549 on an island with that name at the entrance to Stockholm purposes defensive by King Gustav Vasa. The city of Vaxholm is located about 35 km from central Stockholm, but can be reached both by car or bus, it is certainly advisable to do a boat trip of about 1 hour and you can enjoy the beauty of islands near Stockholm and Vaxholm's spectacular harbor and a unique view of the fortress, which despite its small size got to be a robust defense of Stockholm in Danish and Russian invasions.
Apart from the fort and its wonderful harbor, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the streets of Vaxholm with fantastic houses, a church built in 1803, the shopping area near the port and if you decide you can even swim in the Eriksö crystalline waters and Teno, two of the most famous beaches.

As for the cost you can make Vaxholm visit, I can not remember the exact figures, but I recall it, you'll pay, of course transportation to Vaxholm and back to Stockholm, a boat that takes you to the fort as it is in an island (yes, it's a scam, because it is 2 min, but since there is no bridge ....... unless you like swimming, there is no other option), the entrance to the fortress and then into the fortress again if you want visit the museum they have, in my opinion worth it. And finally you may have expenses in Vaxholm. The restaurants to eat were very good looking, but we could not prove it.

Unless I am mistaken the boat is 40 Kr 50 Kr and Museum

And after this short introduction let's see some pictures of the fort, the first from the outside:
